Wisconsin Lab Community - We Need You! 

Looking for Volunteer Leaders to make an impact in our profession. 

ASCLS is a community that supports current and future laboratory professionals as they advance in the profession and it advocates on behalf of the profession for the good of the public. Are you looking to get more involved in ASCLS-WI? The Board of Directors has 5 volunteer leadership positions opening. These positions are a great opportunity to meet awesome people, network with lab professionals within and outside the state of Wisconsin, and have a positive impact on our profession.

These positions will be voted on and leaders will be elected at the ASCLS-WI State Convention at the Hilton Appleton Paper Valley April 2-3, 2024.

Open Positions and Summary of Responsibilities:

All Board members are expected to attend meetings and reply to emails to conduct the business of the society. The Board of Directors meets in-person at the closure of the State Convention in April and typically once in-person in the fall. There are usually 2-3 other virtually meetings throughout the year. The meetings typically last about 2 hours. 

Developing Professional Chair 2024-2025

(formerly Student Forum Chair) Summary of the role: This person acts as a representative for the Developing Professionals Forum on the Board of Directors giving a voice to students in ASCLS-WI. They will be elected at the Developing Professionals Forum Meeting at the ASCLS-WI State Convention April 2-3, 2024.

- The Developing Professional Chair goes on to become the Ascending Professional Chair the following year. Both roles are one year terms on the Board of Directors.
- This person is expected to attend the Board of Directors meetings, participate in discussion, vote and conduct the general business of the society.
- Shall become familiar with the society
- May serve as a member of the Finance Committee if interested
- Shall attend the ASCLS Joint Annual Meeting the year after they are elected (Summer 2025)
- Shall attend the Legislative Symposium in Washington DC the year they are elected (Fall 2024)
- Summary of time commitment: 1-3+ hours per month for meetings, email and correspondence,  5 days plus travel for ASCLS National Joint Annual Meeting in 2025, 2 days plus travel for ASCLS Legislative Symposium, ASCLS-WI financially supports travel arrangements and registration via a reimbursement process (If President Elect is unable to attend the ASCLS National Joint Annual Meeting or Legislative Symposium, an alternate will be selected in their place)

Board Member at Large 2024-2026 (2 Positions)

Summary of the role:
- There are four Board Members at Large on the ASCLS-WI Board of Directors. These individuals attend meetings, participate in discussion, vote, and conduct the general business of the society.
- Shall be assigned by the President to function as liaison members of committees.
- These Board members shall be as knowledgeable about the committee functions as any other committee member and shall report to the Board on the activities in the absence of an official report.
- Summary of the time commitment: 1-3+ hours per month for meetings, email and correspondence

Secretary 2024-2026

Summary of the role: This person acts as a Secretary of the Board of Directors. They would be expected to attend the Board of Directors meetings, participate in the discussion and voting as well as take minutes and send those minutes out to the board in a timely fashion. They would also be expected to post communications on the ASCLS Connect Community for the general membership. Summary of the time commitment: 1-3+ hours per month for meetings, email and correspondence

President Elect 2024-2025

Summary of the role: The President Elect goes on to become the President the following year and then the Past-President. All three roles are one year terms on the Board of Directors.
- This person is expected to attend the Board of Directors meetings, participate in discussion, vote and conduct the general business of the society.
- Shall perform all duties customarily performed by a Vice President and those assigned by the President and/or the Board.
- Shall become familiar with the duties of the office of the President.
- Shall serve as a member of the Finance Committee.
- Shall attend the ASCLS Joint Annual Meeting in the year elected (Summer 2024)
- Shall attend the Legislative Symposium in Washington DC (Fall 2024)
- Shall attend Region V meetings (virtual) and may serve as a member of the Region V planning committee.
- May attend the ASCLS Post-Convention Board of Directors meeting in the year he/she completes his/her term and shall act as co-chair of the Wisconsin delegation.
- Shall, in the absence of the President, or in the event of vacancy in office of the President, act as the Chief Executive of ASCLS-WI.
- Shall serve on the Board of Directors of the WISCLS Scholarship Fund, typically meets twice per year for 1 hour meetings.
- Shall service on the Region V Council with the President and Past-President, typically meets four times per year for 1-2 hour meetings
- Summary of Time Commitment: 1-4+ hours per month for meetings, email and correspondence, 5 days plus travel for ASCLS National Joint Annual Meeting will be held in Pittsburg, PA July 8-12,  2 days plus travel for ASCLS Legislative Symposium, ASCLS-WI financially supports travel arrangements and registration via a reimbursement process (If President Elect is unable to attend the ASCLS National Joint Annual Meeting or Legislative Symposium, an alternate will be selected in their place)
